"Being part of a family of schools gives a great source of support and help not only among teaching staff but for senior leaders and heads. We all have a common goal and together we can spread the expertise and talent across our schools much more easily than before."

Sharon Trundley, Head teacher Westmoor Primary School

"I was impressed with the wide variety of cpd sessions offered by the schools across the alliance. It's great to learn from colleagues and to share expertise. We've had loads of great feedback from our NQTs who tell us that the professional development as part of the NQT Network is crucial in their first year and they really value the support."

Louise Welsh,  Head of School Shiremoor Primary School

About Us

The ShiNE Teaching School Alliance was founded on the belief that every student has the ability to learn and be successful.  Our mission is simple:

Through schools helping and supporting each other, we have the expertise to offer brilliant teaching and learning to all our young people.

ShiNE Teaching School Alliance is a partnership of schools and institutions (see our partners), across all phases, primary, secondary and special that have come together to share our skills, experience, talent and capacity to help improve the learning and achievement of young people across North Tyneside and the local area.

The Director, Barbara Middleton is supported by Joanna Lyons, Project Manager and Louise Welsh, Head of School . Responsibility for the BIG 3 key areas of teaching School is as follows:
Barbara Middleton: School to School Support and System Leadership
Louise Welsh: Initial Teacher Training and School Direct
Joanna Lyons: Developing Teachers through CPLD

The Alliance provides nationally accredited and bespoke leadership, training, support, research and development opportunities to school staff across the region. We have a bank of nationally and regionally recognised experts within the Alliance that can act as a task force to help schools and individuals in need of support.

What is a Teaching School?

The Teaching Schools model is part of Government’s move to give outstanding schools a leading role in the training and development of teachers and support staff. The aim of Teaching Schools is to create a ‘self improving’ system which nurtures excellence and best practice. Teaching Schools will lead the way in enhancing teaching and learning practices and will take much greater responsibility for coordinating and delivering ‘on the job’ teacher training, previously led by universities.

It's all about leadership, collaboration and school improvement......
With so many recent changes to the educational landscape, the whitepaper and academisation on the horizon we aim to keep our teachers and staff as up-to-date  as possible through effective networks, CPD, conferences and regular collaboration between our schools.

Recently, Teaching Schools and system leaders have been given responsibility to play a significant and wider role in school improvement. You can find out how our National, Local and Specialist Leaders of Education work within schools to help raise attainment and standards on our School to School page. Barbara Slider, Shine TSA Director has been asked to join a government task force led by Dame Reena more

You can access what CPD is on offer for staff on our Developing Teachers page.
